We've got at least a couple of issues to look at heading into 2017.
One:
Unsigned minor league players: can they be drafted or not?
Last year we allowed a handful of players agreed upon prior to the draft. This seems messy to me.
Ultimately I'd prefer to see all unsigned players allowed or none at all.
The trouble is that fantrax already has 2017 draftees in their database and I strongly oppose those players being eligible to be drafted now.
When I do the duplicate league for our minors draft I can click the option to only allow signed players to be drafted to have those players eliminated from the pool.
That would be my suggestion.
After we go back to the major league page and draft (where we can allow unsigned major league FA to be drafted). Once that draft is over I can change the setting there to only allow signed players into the player pool. That will allow any unsigned major league FA who were drafted to remain in the pool, while blocking out the unsigned minor league players. The player pool would remain like that until the following years draft.
It's messy admittedly, but it's doable and might be better than allowing certain ones as pre-agreed upon. It would stop any ineligible players from being drafted over and over again like last year.
My whole point and thought process is that I want each draft to be meaningful. It's the best way in my opinion to help lesser teams have a chance each year. So I don't want 2017 draftees picked up off the wire this year as opposed to giving the worst team first crack at them next year.
We also have the issue of QS/W points scoring.
There is an excellent breakdown done by Scott here in the new rules suggestion folder.
Let's tackle the unsigned minors first and then look at the QS.
Thanks!!!
