To briefly recap, there are plenty of unsigned major league free agents that did not find themselves in our player pool for the draft. Guys like Alex Cobb, Logan Morrison, and recently signed Todd Frazier.
We lock the pool from unsigned players so college guys and others can't be picked up. In the future , we can lock them out after the draft!
Anyway, some great ideas were shared.
Let's just vote.
1. Increase the time post draft to one week before free agency opens. Allow the usual faab bidding on these players. (Would provide list to everyone ahead of time)
2. Set up an auction. Find a location to do an auction, and auction these players off one at a time (out of everyone's faab $100 yearly budget). Would likely be a slow auction, but we will have time.
3. Auction / faab blend. For one week, auction off a player per day out of each teams faab budget (the top 7 available players, ie frazier, Cobb, etc).
Then open usual waiver process and faab for the remaining players. (Lesser types)
In all these cases I believe every team would have an equal chance at each player. Some may want to spend big, some won't. But the opportunity is equal.
I can see merits to all three options. So let's just vote.
