I never set the league setting to: "players must be signed to a mlb team" because that would preclude any free agents from being drafted. (Maeda is in the fantrax player pool as it is currently constructed)
My intention was to only have signed players be eligible for the drafts, BUT I don't see that I wrote that anywhere in the constitution.
With the player pool being locked as soon as the minor league draft starts, my opinion is:
It's probably more important that player(s) like Maeda aren't left out of our league in season one when they'll almost certainly have value in 2016.
I think the rules read this way anyway--- certainly the league setup does (even if my intent was to just allow major league FA to be eligible).
My only suggestion is that any players like Maeda, we list here so there is no disadvantage to anyone who hasn't done a ridiculously deep player search in the fantrax database. Then everyone is on the same level playing field.
If this is agreeable let me know.
I searched the top players from the 2016 amateur draft and couldn't find any in the data base, so that is a relief. By the time they're entered I will have locked the player pool ensuring they're not eligible to be picked up until next year's draft.
(I'd personally never want college/high school players picked up before they are signed)
